Computational Aspects of Speed-Dependent Voigt and Rautian Profiles
In this article we examined the computational aspects of speed-dependent Voigt and Rautian profiles which are important for the computation of molecular cross sections from the latest spectroscopic line lists. A free preprint version of the article is available via the DLR electronic library.
Important findings
- Speed-dependent Voigt and Rautian given by difference of two complex error functions
- A single rational approximation (Humlicek or Weideman) provides sufficient accuracy for complex error functions
- Cancellation-safe implementation of difference defining complex error functions argument
- Moderate time overhead compared to Voigt function
